Cosmetic & Reconstructive Eyelid Surgery

Due to the effects of the sun, diet, pollutants, gravity, heredity, aging, and the simple act of blinking, the skin around the eyes begins to loosen and relax. Over time, sagging occurs from the force of gravity pulling the eyelid tissue. Changes also occur in the fatty tissue located just beneath the skin. These normally firm fat pads begin to protrude, causing bulges or “bags” to form.

Sagging, drooping eyelids can interfere with vision and appearance. Removing this tissue can improve vision and make a person look dramatically younger and more energetic. In addition to changes in appearance and limited field of vision, excess eyelid tissue can cause discomfort, brow ache, and fatigue. In some cases, excess skin may even cause the eyelashes to turn in and irritate the eye. Fortunately, Atlantic Eye Institute offers surgical solutions to improve vision as well as appearance.

Before & After Photos

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is plastic surgery of the eyelids to restore the natural beauty of your eyes. In this common procedure for both men and women, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed from around the eyes.

Ptosis Repair

Ptosis is the condition of the upper eyelid drooping below its expected position when the eye is looking straight ahead. It usually indicates an issue with the muscle inside the eyelid and, depending on the severity, it can limit or even completely block vision. However, in many instances, ptosis is considered to be a cosmetic issue, causing a tired or sleepy appearance. Ptosis can happen at any stage of life and can affect just one or both eyes. A ptosis repair will raise the position of the upper eyelid margin by tightening the muscle and tendon that normally elevate it.

These procedures are usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, depending on the amount of reconstruction needed, the patient’s preference, and health. Incision lines are made on the underside of the eyelid or hidden in the natural skin folds so they are virtually unnoticeable after they have healed. Fine sutures used to close incisions will either dissolve on their own or may be removed several days after surgery.

After The Procedure

After surgery quiet rest with the head elevated is recommended to relieve any soreness or discomfort. Cold compresses are applied to reduce swelling and bruising which may last several days. You will need to keep the eyelids clean and use antibiotic ointments after your procedure.

Cost

Depending on the severity of your condition, medical insurance may help to cover the cost of your procedure. If your condition is determined cosmetic, Atlantic Eye Institute is pleased to offer Alphaeon Credit no interest payment plans for up to 24 months. Alphaeon Credit allows you to get the care you need and want today-then pay for it over time with low monthly payments that are easy to fit into your monthly budget.

Surgical Enhancements

Botox & Xeomin

Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead are due to over-activity of facial muscles that are used during expression. By allowing these muscles to rest, muscle relaxing injection treatments can significantly reduce or eliminate these lines and wrinkles.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are a natural lifting treatment for maturing skin. Working as a gel-based form of hyaluronic acid, they are gently injected into the facial wrinkles, lips or underneath the eye area to enhance the skin’s fullness and flexibility.

Latisse

Latisse® is a prescription treatment used to grow eyelashes, making each one longer, thicker and darker. Latisse® is a daily solution that you apply each evening to the base of your upper eyelashes. Users begin to see eyelash growth at four weeks with full results after 16 weeks.
