Cataract Surgery

What Is a Cataract?

Cataracts are a normal and natural part of life, and will occur to everyone if they live long enough. Most people will develop some stage of cataracts by the age of 65.

Cataracts are simply a buildup of protein that is found within the crystalline lens inside your eye. As the cataract progresses, it allows less light to pass through your eye, causing your vision to become dull and blurred.

Most of the time, cataracts develop very slowly. Therefore, symptoms can be hard to notice.

  • Cloudy or blurry vision
  • Difficulty seeing at night
  • Light and glare sensitivity
  • Frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription
  • Fading or yellowing colors
  • Double Vision
  • White spots over the pupil

Cataract surgery is recommended once eyeglasses and contact lenses no longer correct your vision.  It involves replacing your natural, clouded lens with a new, artificial one.
